About the Book

This volume is made up of twenty-four sermons. These sermons are not "essays" but are presented as they have been preached in pulpits-some of them evolving over a period of fifty years. They are "timeless" and " universal" in that these ideas have maintained a relevancy throughout the years of the author's life and have been received with appreciation in small country churches as well as in the world of academe. Here are found illustrations of various types of sermons. Some of them have an evangelistic bent, but there are topical sermons, doctrinal sermons, textural sermons, expository sermons, and book sermons, in this collection. In the first seven of thee sermons there is a progression of thought from God's grace in lifting one out of moral degradation to a life in which one is led by the Spirit of God. Using a phase from Paul, the author argues that this progress in the Christian life comes through " the renewal of the mind." Thus these sermons are designed to enable a person "to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."
