About the Book

The author plays with a hypnotic, almost imperceptible undercurrent. Poetry of love and tenderness is set against the unambiguous anguish of love and loss. Tributes to life are blended with small barbs of disillusionment. A truly beautiful and original work, Reflections - Away With Words, is the author's catharsis for the whims of fate and fortune. In the author's words:

"I was a 'jock' and guys weren't supposed to have feelings. And no one had ever explained why. It was like admitting something was wrong with me. I'm not sure what I was looking for back then, but I knew...I felt that my direction was somewhere I'd never been. In my mind I needed there to be more to my life... something important. Ideas to be heard, questions to be asked, honesty to be felt. The book - I think it all started on a match-book cover. Maybe it was a paper napkin. Seeing it all now - it's not the names or the places - but the memories that are important.

It was a great trip. From the oceans to the desert, the mountains to the city lights. And I wrote about my feelings and the feelings of lovers, family, and friends. And as many rainbows that lent a smile, there were just as many to steal a frown. For whatever reason, good or bad, I find the words that built the thoughts more meaningful now. And every day there are new ones. You can't explain many of them. Everyone has them but few will admit them...Especially the negative side. But admitting the pain, as well as the happiness is positive. See if you can't find a moment to relate to."

About the Author

Bob Morrison was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming to a ranching family from nearby Chugwater. His earliest memories are of the ranch and the hard working, hard playing people of his heritage. Bob attended high school in Sacramento, California. A good student, energetic and active in sports, Bob enjoyed people and any new adventure that presented itself. After 1 year in the local city college, Bob left home to study public relations and play football at the University of Hawaii. But he was getting restless. He returned to the mainland, bought his first motorcycle and set out to learn about people, life and love on the open road.

Although his first trip took only 13 weeks, it awakened a spirit - a thirst - within him. Just one year after returning to Hawaii, he headed for the mainland again and bought another motorcycle. This time it took seven months to go from San Diego to Cape Cod - by way of Canada - and it was 15 years before he called any one place home. During his travels he made a living as a tour guide in Miami, he built railroad track for Union Pacific in Wyoming, raced cars in Louisiana and played blackjack in Las Vegas. He sold life insurance in San Francisco, worked in radio as a DJ and a sports reporter; he sold advertising in San Francisco, mined for gold in western Arizona and worked construction in Tucson. And all along the way Reflections: Away With Words was being written.

Today he still loves to travel, but he does so mostly for business or to visit family. He owns an advertising agency in Tucson where he lives with his wife (his best friend), her neurotic cat, and of course... his Harley.
