About the Book

Still prolific at 90 years South African artist Hilda Bischoff publishes prints of symbolic paintings and South African landscapes. her impressive spiritual fine artworks have an overlay of poetry to reveal and illustrate the inner meaning of the picture.

About the Author

Hilda Bischoff, who is still a prolific painter and poet at the age of 90, is an inspiration to all of us. Nimble and sprite, with classical music in the background, Hilda chats to me about her life and her art. Born in the Netherlands, her ambition was to express her thoughts, from 9 years old on dancing and choreography, later by painting. In 1948 she emigrated with her husband to South Africa.

After busy years for the benefit of family and business she studied fine arts at the Rhodes University in Grahamstown. After the she obtained recognition for her rolliflex made photogrpahs of children. It was only in the seventies that she could devote her time and energy to express her creativity in painting and later on she started adding poems to her works to reveal and illustrate the innner meaning of the picture.

The spiritual element in a considerable part of her work is, like she tells herself, an innate thing and already found its expression in her way of dancing in the Netherlands. Her love for our planet is a major issue in this respect.

Hilda concludes this interview with the words: "I don't have time to die, so much to do and to love"

Inspiring, isn't it??
