About the Book
Journey To Yourself: Discover and Become Your Ideal Self by Heather Annon is a guided self-help journal that shows the participant many small ways to get to a better place in life. The journal contains about 80 thoughts, stories and ideas about everyday things. These, coupled with daily exercises, aim to take the participant out of their daily rut and allow them to discover ways to enjoy life again.
I have personally experienced the good and the bad that can come with choosing the right path and making the wrong decision. As a student of human nature, I have been exposed to and have carefully observed people in my life who have upbeat personalities, and those who have allowed negativity to creep in and take over. I've seen the effects of drugs, alcohol, suicide and death as well as optimism, hope, faith and selflessness and how they affect not only the person, but those around them.
I have placed this knowledge all into one guide I call an "active journal". This journal allows the person using it to think about these effects at their own pace. It then shows the participant how to incorporate the positive ones into their daily lives, while avoiding the negative ones before they have to experience them first hand.
About the Author
My biological father left before I was born, but I was fortunate to have an older sister, a mother and grandparents who raised me to see the good in all people and all situations. I had a new dad and brother added to the mix when I was six years old. I, therefore have the values usually attributed to 3 different generations: World War II, Baby Boomers and Generation "X"ers. This allows me to see the world through several pair of glasses.
I earned a B.A. in Communication from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in 1995. I have worked at Safeway Food & Drug for many years as a Training Generalist, Training Specialist, and an Employment Specialist. In my career, I have become a certified facilitator for classes such as FranklinCovey Time Management, Presentation Skills, Diversity and FrontLine Leadership.
I am an eternal optimist, who has learned that pessimism has a necessary place in life. I've learned that through the power of positive decision making life can be easier and more fun. People see that, and that positive influence becomes infectious. My faith has helped me to see that anything is possible, no matter how grim the situation is at the moment. While the journal is not overtly about God or a higher power, it does show the participant that by reframing negatives into positives, looking for the good, and seeing things from different perspectives, we all have the power to change our lives for the better, and become our ideal selves.
