About the Book
This collection of short stories is a sequel to ‘A Leck in th’Ear’, also by Anne Morrin, and reveals much about the lifestyles and customs of people – young and old – who lived in remote areas in the West of Ireland sixty years ago. The inhabitants, some of whom seldom ventured beyond their own parish, claimed they knew “every chick an’ child”, an’ “every hole an’ corner” in the county. They were “in an’ out” of each others houses in an easy-going casual manner, sharing all the local gossip. Everyone knew the other person’s life story. There were very few secrets in the close-knit villages in The Ireland We Remember.
