About the Book

John Haw was born in 1931 into a family of hoteliers. His early education was largely completed through a combination of the World War II London Blitz and reconciling the practical realities of being socially somewhere between an aspiring gentleman cadet and a Treasure Island style tavern boy.

His chequered adult career with all its contrasting moods and tempting adventures is recorded in this true reflective factual cavalcade of his own militarily inclined family.

Set in world events of the Twentieth Century which continue to have serious repercussions in the world that we live in today – did so much of what we had accomplished in the past deserve to be scattered like dust in the wind in favour of a new order of things.

These memoirs are rich on many levels and offer a ringside seat to some of the past old fashioned virtues, unspoken notions of loyalty and personal honour of those generations that came before the doctrine of political correctness.

About the Author

John Haw served with the 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment from 1952, when it was then part of the 16th Independent Parachute and almost half the officers and men had already gained experience of active service in the Second World War and making oneâ*™s mark as a young subaltern had to be made under the constant critical eye of an earlier British Army, who prized the same old fashioned virtues, judged more or less by the same standards and shared the same, unspoken notions of loyalty and personal honour of those generations that came before the doctrines of political correctness gained popular currency.

He was later posted to the 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment in 1957, and went on to remain active with the Special Air Service Regiment until the 1970s, despite the chore of his having a â*œpart timeâ** job as a civilian.
