This eclectic compilation of poems about the human experience will delight and inspire poets and non-poets alike. With themes ranging from nature, art and science to love, politics and religion, Blais’ commentary on modern-day life encompasses the full range of human emotion—some poems are uplifting and inspirational; others are witty and entertaining or emotional and moving. In each case, his views are eloquently expressed and reflect his optimism and genuine appreciation of life’s wonders, dilemmas and challenges. Blais’ clever use of vivid description, introspection and plays on words makes his brand of poetry refreshing and captivating.
About the Author
Raymond Blais was born in 1949 and has lived most of his life in Rhode Island, USA. He has never married and has no dependents.
At seventeen he went to work for a jewelry company. During the six years he worked there, he attended night school to finish his basic education and then technical school to study Computer Sciences. He excelled and had a very successful twenty-five-year career with Rhode Island’s leading bank
As the computer programming industry matured, his position as a bank officer became less challenging and more business-oriented. So he left at age fifty-two, bought a trailer and traveled west. For three years, he lived in Las Vegas Nevada, where he played poker every day. After Las Vegas, he returned to Rhode Island and tried several different jobs before finally settling in as a tax return preparer in December 2005.
As a tax return preparer, he worked only five months out of the year, which gave him the time off to do others things. That’s when he started writing poetry. Friends thought the poems were pretty good so he decided to spend two-plus years putting together a collection of poems to be published in a book that would focus on his impressions and thoughts of life during that time.
Eleven of his poems have been published. In September 2007, he was awarded poet of the month by the leading Internet community poetry site GotPoetry.com. He has also won seven poetry slam contests.
