About the Book

The Man in Green is a story about the ancient green God of the forest. A deity that had been abandoned by humanity when the new religions and gods came to Europe in the long ago. It is in four parts and tells of his long and patient sojourn in the heart of his woodlands for mankind to need him again.

Part One is set at a medieval fair, and, in a series of short, almost poetical vignettes, it tells of the people who attend that fair. It describes their lives, their emotions, and the Man in Green as he watches and records their comings and goings.

Part Two is set in the same place, but it is many years later, and the setting is at a circus. The time is Regency England. And again speaks of the townsfolk who attend that circus. How they feel, what they see, as this new form of entertainment is presented for their delectation. And, again, the Man in Green watches, records, waits for humanity to need him again.

Part three is in a modern environment, and tells of the people who visit a county show. How they come to look at all the goodies that have been produced to seperate them from their hard earned cash. It again tells of the people struggling with life. And the greater picture is of the depredation of the world in which they dwell. And the Man in Green still watches and despairs of the people for whom he could do so much. But he cannot force himself upon them. They have to come willingly to his green garden in the woodlands.

Part four is, perhaps, the most complex of all. Telling as it does, of a time far into the future when the world, as we know it, has gone; has been destroyed by war, by famine, by disease. And those people who remain are free of the taint of our flawed civilization. Are, in fact, suitable receptacles for the teaching of the Man in Green. And, at this point, he sends out his call, and they, in response come to his ancient glade to receive his teaching. There is, however, a small problem, in that somewhere out there in the far reaches of space, there exists another deity. "The Watcher in the Night", who has, albeit innocently, tampered with the great plan of creation that is beyond the understanding of all save the Prime Mover of all things. And there is just the feeling, unstated, that the hopes and dreams of the Man in Green will come to nought. Will be spoiled by the intervention of what might prove to be a new Satan figure.

About the Author

Stan Phillips is a clairvoyant/psychotherapist and hypnotherapist. He lives and works in Waterford, but is a Londoner by birth. He is well known in his field and has appeared on TV and radio, although he would never suggest that he was a household name. He also writes horoscopes for one or two newspapers, but never expects to get rich from it. He has always had an interest in the metaphysical side of life. And this book is his way of getting his philosophy out into the wider world.
