About the Book
Bad Time Stories is a memoir of growing up in Germany between the years of 1939 and 1959.
It is the story of Sophie's childhood and adolescence in the grim world of a war-ravaged industrial city. Despite personal tragedy, the hardships of the post-war era, a dysfunctional family and repeated disappointments, Sophie never loses her capacity for joy.
Bad Time Stories is about loss and cruelty, but also about great love and generosity, and above all, a testament to the resiliency of the human spirit.
