American Black Military Leaders is a pictorial which contains over 2000 photos of black military leaders. This is the only publication that provides 326 photos of black Generals and Admirals and over 1674 other black military leaders. Also included is information on black leaders from World War I and World War II; the Medal of Honor Winners; and a list of historical facts about black military leaders. The biographical information on America's Black Female Generals and Admirals is also included.

While American military history is filled with many important milestones and achievements, until the publication of this book the photo's of these 326 Generals and Admirals have never been published.

The book is organized by services Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy. Some of the other photos included are:

12. Command Chief Master Sergeant Thomas N. Barnes, the first black Command Chief Master Sergeant to head the U.S. Air Force.

There are over 100 other historical photos never published before, which are historic.


About the Author

He was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from South Fulton High, in East Point, Georgia (1967). He attended: Dekalb College and the University of Georgia.

His military education includes: Basic Combat Training, Fort Benning, Georgia; Advanced Individual Training, Fort Polk, LA., (1969); all the Noncommissioned Officer Education System Courses; Senior Noncommissioned Officer Course at Camp Edwards, MA.; Logistics Management Course, Fort Lee, VA.; United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Fort Bliss, TX.; United States Army Command Sergeants Major (D) Course, Fort Bliss, TX.

His assignments includes: in 1969, assigned with the Supply Point 39, 8th Army, in Korea, promoted to Sergeant on April 6, 1970; from 1974 to 1978, assigned with the 310th Civil Affairs Unit, Atlanta, Ga. promoted to Staff Sergeant on October 5, 1974 and to Sergeant First Class on September 14, 1977; from 1978 to 1980, assigned to the 335th Signal Command, he was promoted to Master Sergeant on July 9, 1980; from July 1980 to February 1986, served as the Chief Logistics NCO at the 81st Army Reserve Command, Atlanta, Ga.; from 1986 to 1989, he served with the 335th Signal Command first as Logistic NCO, later from 1989 to 1993, as Sergeant Major of S-4 (Logistics NCOIC), promoted to Sergeant Major on June 27, 1989; from December 1993 to December 1997, he served as the Command Sergeant Major for the 1st Battalion, 4th Brigade, 87th Division (EX), Fort Gillem, Georgia, he was appointed Command Sergeant Major on December 12, 1993. In March, 1998, he was selected to serve as the Command Sergeant Major for the 75th Combat Support Hospital (HUB), located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The 75th Combat Support Hospital, have 3 Units with nearly 528 soldiers assigned, in Alabama, and Mississippi.

His military awards and decorations includes: Army Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal (with oak leaf clusters); Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (with two oak leaf cluster); National Defense Service Medal (with bronze service star); Good Conduct Medal(with five oak leaf clusters); Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea); Army Force Reserve Medal (with 2nd 10-year device); Army Service Ribbon; Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon (with number 2); NCO Professional Development Ribbon (with the numeral 4); Two Unit Citations.

CSM Hawkins Civilian Occupation: A career as a professional Law Enforcement Officer, and held a wide variety of important command and staff positions, culminating in current position. He served as a Police Officer, Police Narcotic Detective and Internal Investigation Investigator with the Atlanta Police Department, from 1971 to 1975. From 1975 to 1987, first with the Fulton County's new Police Department as one of the first four black police officers with that department in history. He later was promoted as the first black police Sergeant with the Fulton County Police Department. Also work with the Fulton County Sheriff's Department. In January 1990, he was appointed Postal Police Officer and in April 1997, he was promoted to Postal Police Sergeant. In January 2000, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and assigned as Manager of Postal Police for the Southern United States. He retired from the US Postal Service in July 2009.
