Kimo's best friend is his neighbor, "Uncle" Harry. Uncle Harry takes him fishing adventures and joyriding. More importantly, Uncle Harry remembers what it is like to be kid. Kimo's parents don't.

The Junkalunka car is the catalyst that brings the family back to simple childhood pleasures.

About the Author

Stormy has been a teacher on the island of Kauai, Hawai'i, teaching students of many ethnicities and from many cultural backgrounds.

As with all her stories, Uncle Harry, was a real person and some parts of the story are true. It is the challenge of taking a story from truth to fiction that Stormy enjoys best. The local children's use of the word, "junkalunka" has always intrigued her. It is so descriptive. "Junkalunka" is a piegon English word that equates to "beater" or "heap" but it is a far more colorful word like just about everything in Hawai'i.
