About the Book

If not polished regularly, brass tarnishes quickly. The same can be said for integrity, it must be constantly guarded. This book will show examples of the variables that come into play throughout a career in law enforcement. The author's experiences contain valuable pointers that will serve as a guide to all those who want to be a success in the profession.

The author's sense of humor is as unique as the several situations he encounteres. He describes the formula and application of common sense and life's knowledge; both necessary to becoming an effective police officer. The author's encounters with other officers and methods of interacting leave the reader with valuable insight to identify, confront and overcome egotistical personalities. This book will, in a small way, alert the aspiring officers to be aware of all that surrounds them in uniform. Few officers are great, many mediocre and some shouldn't be there at all. The real challenge is to be the best one can be and above all, be true to one's self. An officer's role is to encourage voluntary compliance with the law using minimum action. Respect begets respect.

"All good things come to he who remembers and waits. Police Officers are not paid to finish second, therefore, some things are worth waiting for".

About the Author

I am a life long resident of the State of Maine. I had a brother Robert, who was six years and six days older than me. Robert was blind at birth. He was gifted in so many ways. Extremely intelligent, he eventually earned his PhD. He inspired me to dare to excel. However, like my mother and father, alcohol took him well before his time.

Unfortunately, my family was another example of the long struggle of alcohol in the Native American community.

My teen years were spent in constant fear of what awaited me at home. Alcohol, wreaked havoc in the household. My savior and role model was Maine State Trooper, Bernard Emery. Bernard changed my life, saved a lost soul, and planted the seed of public service within me. I became a police officer. In my eyes, I could never reach the level of perfect; that, Bernard accomplished. I'm proud of my career and hope Bernard realizes that he truly touched others

In my early years what time I had spent off the farm, was consumed by baseball and music lessons, I loved both. After high school, I went off to play baseball and used my income to further my musical education. Unfortunately, I couldn't make a living as a musician in the State of Maine.

Although I have also recorded several albums, toured our great nation and entertained with a world class family of musicians, my proudest accomplishment has been serving the citizens of York County. Along the road of law enforcement, a man learns, as in any other profession, some either shouldn't be there or are less than honorable.

My long friendship with Jim Moores (retired FBI) and his bride, Dianne, inspired with writing of this book. Jim kept saying, ten thousand times, "you should write a book."

Well, Ok, I did.

Dianne did the rest and here it is, hot off the press.

I plan to double my fire insurance with the income from sales and open a combination donut shop and large & tall police supply store with powdered sugar and jelly repellent uniforms. "Stick with me on this... "
