About the Book

Chat FM is a small, provincial radio station in Great Yarmouth. It was in serious financial trouble until the Board appointed Rupert Matthews as its new MD. Rupert specialises in business turnaround projects and wastes no time in cutting costs and making its programmes more appealing to the masses, with the help of his newly-appointed Market Research Executive. But not everybody is happy with the changes they introduce.

Neil is one of Chat FM's longest serving presenters. He wants to be the next Robin Day, John Humphreys and Jeremy Paxman all rolled into one, but the chances of that happening are about as likely as Peter Stringfellow becoming the next Archbishop of Canterbury. The decision to run the BIG Life Change Competition on his Sunday show doesn't surprise him in the least. As far as he is concerned it's just another nail in his professional coffin. The only reason he decides to stay on, rather than hand in his notice, is because the competition starts to capture the imagination of the whole country. Instead of just getting a handful of local listeners entering, they finish up with more than eight hundred thousand, and a prize fund worth more than half a million pounds.

Five lucky listeners' names are drawn out of the hat, live on Neil's BIG Sunday Show. The five contestants then set about the task of trying to solve five treasure hunt clues - one each week for five weeks - with the top two going through to a 'winner takes all, head-to-head final', in front of a TV audience of more than a million people.

Although only one contestant is supposed to have his (or her) life changed, by winning the competition, that's not the way things work out. And not all their lives change for the better!
