About the Book

In the beginning the people, by means of the constitution, created a government to do for them specific items set forth in the constitution. The Bill of Rights was written as part of the constitution and speaks directly to government. In so doing the people clearly delineated, by the use of words and phrases such as; 1. Congress shall make no law; 2 shall not be infringed; 3 no soldier shall; 4 shall not be violated; 5 shall be preserved; 6 shall not be required; 7 shall not be construed; 8 are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people. Has your government ever asked your opinion about this matter?

The constitution sets forth the amendment process for making legal changes to the constitution. The other method is to call a constitutional convention. YET, Congress, Administrations and Supreme Court have knowingly and collectively violated the constitution for self-purpose and gain, putting themselves ahead of the people.

What part of shall not does our government not understand? How has government justified their betrayal of the people and their constitution? Does the statement of our forefathers, "ultimately all governments become evil" apply today to our government?

The people may act and must act to rein in an out of control government that has little or no respect for people and their rights. These actions can be either individual or collective.

Heide Egert-Budik:

  • Born in 1926 in a small , ancient town in northwest Germany.
  • Spent all her k-12 school years during Hitler's regime.
  • Experienced the war with all its terror and horror and the hunger and deprivation following it.
  • She and her brothers learned at a very young age what a government with absolute power is capable of doing, and saw how her parents were rendered helpless, not by physical force, but by extremely clever political maneuvering and by little threats, one little step at a time.
  • She married an occupation soldier and left for Britain in 1948, and went the US in 1952.
  • Raised her two daughters in Chicago.
  • Worked first in factories but continued her education and improved her English.
  • She found work with the U. S. Postal Service, continued her studies and graduated from Roosevelt University. During those years, she qualified, by demonstrating competency, further special studies and taking various test, for promotion board considerations.
  • After advancing through management she was selected for Executive Positions.

Her rise through a government bureaucracy allowed her to observe how power is such a temptation and so often corrupts. It was sometimes quite sad to watch. The experiences in her younger years and the observations in later life caused her to become suspicious of our democratic ways. Such similarity with her past brought about concerns: Are we headed for dictatorship? And the fear that without vigilance it would be possible. Freedom; this is so precious and so fragile a commodity, so easily lost. And don't I know it.
