About the Book

Something was missing. Captain Sharon Russell was a decorated war vet, a commercial pilot, a burnished redhead with legs up to here -- but she felt incomplete. Where was the man who could make her heart soar, her body tingle, her life whole? Then came the phone call, a wrong number -- but the right voice. Keith Carver. And just when Sharon’s life was about to do a happy 180, she ran into turbulence, the violent kind. A terrorist hijacking left her bleeding on the floor of her 777 bound for Beijing, though by her actions she had saved all the innocent people on the plane.

Her body was scarred, but she was buoyed by Keith’s devotion and the support of the people who owed their lives to her. She was now less of a woman, but Keith’s desire never waned. Like a phoenix, she rose again, to a future she could never have charted.

In a world shaken and confused by 9/11, Sharon proved that we can stand fast, fight back, and never, ever give up. When it was revealed that among the passengers on her plane were the grandparents of the president of China, Sharon was pushed onto the international stage; now she was a hero not only to her countrymen, but she had touched a nerve that ran all the way to the far outreaches of Asia.

Impressed by Sharon’s steel, integrity and warmth, the President of the United States, with keen perception, set the brave pilot’s career on a new course. With Keith and kids at her side, Sharon throttled up until she was reaching for the stars.

About the Author

Colon cancer -- two words no one is ever ready to hear. But they were spoken to author Truman Rock in 1999. When he made the decision to have surgery and chemotherapy, he took time to reflect. It was then he realized that, distracted by life’s other pressing concerns, he had stopped doing the things he liked, writing being at the top of a long list. Ten books and nine years later, Now and Then a Hero is the touchstone, as he fondly refers to it.

Truman has traveled quite a journey to arrive at the jewel of his first published work. From high school dropout to advanced degree in education, from the working world to a military adventure in the Navy and the Marines, he has treasured every moment and experience.

Truman says the cancer event quickly focused his life, as he began it again with writing fiction. Now and Then a Hero is not his first book, but the first he chose to publish among the dozen or so he has in the wings of his career. All of his stories are written by hand and, only when completed, are they are typed and edited. It’s the pen in hand, touching the sheet of paper, that extracts the feelings.

Other stories on the horizon from this author:

-- The Hound That Consumed Time, which centers on the circle of stones on top of the head of the Sphinx and the discovery of an ancient space port under Giza showing evidence of an interplanetary war that took place a million years ago.

-- Donkees, a romance-adventure about a treasure hunt for old coins and gold in the Panama Canal.

-- Inca Princess and Trail to the Moon combine ancient Incan legends with science-fiction odysseys.

-- Through Time to Mars; Discovery; Enchanted Canyon; Dream Walker; and Dolphin Princess.
