About the Book

Do You Hear What I Hear? is a delightful mixed-bag that makes for interesting reading. It is one part the memoir of a small town California girl who sets her sights on Broadway, and gets there. This journey is described humorously and inspirationally. Another part of the narrative concerns the adventures MARGE RIVINGSTON experiences in those heady days of being in show business and being young in New York.

There is another dimension, and that is the good solid advice the author has for those aspirants of today who dream of the “bright lights”. As a voice coach, RIVINGSTON steps up with valuable training methods for expanding, protecting, and projecting the voice in the real world of eight shows a week. Not only are all the exercises explained explicitly in the text, but the book contains a CD for the learner to practice, imitate, and learn.

Do You Hear What I Hear? is a narrative that is a memoir, an inspiration, a “how-to” book that is sometimes sad, serious and often humorous-but always interesting!

About the Author

MARGE RIVINGSTON was a little girl, a singer and a piano player in Santa Ana, California. But growing up she realized that to reach her goals she had to go to the performers’ mecca, New York. There she worked for forty years as both singer and voice coach. Her reputation grew and she soon found herself coaching top performers such as, Linda Ronstadt, Jane Powell, Maureen McGovern, Ellen Greene, Dixie Carter, Faye Dunaway and Bette Midler. Her coaching is not limited to female vocalists for she has worked with Kevin Kline, Treat Williams, Robby Benson, Rex Smith and Tim Curry. She was the vocal coach in both the New York and London productions of The Pirates of Penzance and Little Shop of Horrors.

MARGE RIVINGSTON has moved back to California and currently lives in Laguna Hills where she is involved in teaching in both Laguna Hills and Los Angeles. She continues to work with Bette Midler, Linda Ronstadt, Maureen McGovern, Corky Hale and others. She also flies into New York to coach. She is busy and happily engaged in her work.
