About the Book
We do not learn to cook by reading cookery books; nor do we learn to pray by reading books on prayer. However, in Leaves from the Tree of Heaven, Augustine Hoey provides wise practical advice to guide and encourage us in prayer.
Firstly he frees us to pray as we can and not as others say we ought. He stresses the importance of prayer as a personal relationship with God and our neighbour. - just as each of us is a unique creation of God, so we all relate to our Creator.
Augustine Hoey goes on to reflect on different aspects of prayer: the importance of silence; the role of the Bible; praying with Mary and the saints; coping with common difficulties in prayer. He also focuses on some of the key prayers we use: the Lor'd Prayer; the Hail Mary and praying the Eucharist.
Leaves from the Tree of Heaven is a distillation of what the author has learned in a lifetime of prayer. It will touch all of us who have struggled in our prayer life.
