About the Book

The short stories in Love and Loss deal with struggling individuals and their desire to succeed in an often absurd and indifferent world. They are also a moving testament to human endurance in the face of tragedy.

'Castles Made of Sand' looks at the nature of the unknown in relationships. 'Mercy' is the story of a young son who tries to stop his Dad from taking the life of an injured animal. 'Seth's Friend' examines the changing nature of friendship and its competition with love. 'Finding Sophie' tells of one man's quest to find his lost love.

These are just some of the highlights in Matt's entertaining and thought provoking collection of short stories.

About the Author

Matt Butler was born in Melbourne, Australia.

He was first drawn to writing in primary school. During his primary school years he wrote two small books, which he illustrated.

During his last two years of high school, the works of the Beat Generation writers, and Carver heavily influenced him.

It was during this time that Matt decided to seriously dedicate himself to writing.

After high school he studied Professional Writing and Editing. During this time he wrote three books, the best being Forever Night, which dealt with mental illness. He also began to write a series of dark, yet compelling short stories dealing with disintegrating relationships. They were later gathered into a short story collection, which was to become Love and Loss.

Matt continues to write and is working on his second volume of short stories.
