About the Author

Zane was born in 1921, and was raised in a sod house in Dawes County, Nebraska. He is the oldest of four brothers and three sisters.

He received his elementary education in a one-room, country schoolhouse. He then moved to Chadron, Nebraska, where he lived with his aunt and uncle while he attended high school at Chadron Nebraska State Teachers College Prep School. He graduated in June, 1941.

Army Life began for Zane when he was drafted into service the following year in July 1942.

In this book, Zane tells of his experiences for the three years and three months he served in the United States Army.
