About the Book

The Book is a light hearted account of the author's experiences when she (an only child) was evacuated from Liverpool to a small village in the Clwyd Valley in North Wales. It was such a different life in all aspects that it has stayed encapsulated in her memory.

From a weekly Saturday matinee' visit to the local cinema in Liverpool to the compulsory visit every Sunday to the Calvinistic Methodist Chapel - What a vast change!

It was the authors grand daughter who urged her to write down her evacuation experiences in Wales and then urged her to write some more about growing up in Liverpool and her first Teaching post in West Bromwich.

About the Author

Audrey Quirk was born Audrey Fairbairn in Whitley Bay, Northumberland in 1929. At the age of two, her family returned to Liverpool when her father accepted a position with his former employer - The Liverpool Daily Post and Echo.

Audrey trained at C.F. Mott Teacher Training College and started her teaching career in West Bromwich in the Midlands. She taught for thirty odd years, firstly in the Midlands then in Liverpool, Lancashire and finally Cheshire.

Now widowed and retired she enjoys many hobbies including gardening, knitting and piano playing. In later years she has studied the Welsh Language, leaning to write and speak it correctly - a very difficult task but one that has given her much laughter and enjoyment, as well as a return link to her formative years at the start of this book.
