About the Book

There are two sections in Fat to Fabulous. The first part is for girls from eleven to fifteen plus. Over a period of a few years Jodie writes in her journal about her introduction to an older girl, Sally. Sally shows the overweight Jodie how she found the answer to her uncontrollable eating, and why she now lives without overwhelming cravings, excess weight and frightening feelings. With SallyÕs help, Jodie and her friends learn the physical and emotional reasons why they overeat and cannot stop for any length of time. They realize why diets donÕt ever work for them. They experience for themselves how to change very simply from distress about their bodies and their relationships to lives that, for each of them, open up new ways of being in the world. Within a very short time they are in better health, have built a supportive friendship group and have the energy and confidence to explore existing possibilities and make plans for the future. The second part of Fat to Fabulous is addressed to parents or carers, and to professionals in schools or elsewhere who may wish to support and help girls who are compulsive eaters. A letter format from the author refers to some current thought about the causes, outcomes and solutions for children who are battling with obesity. The Workbook offers a program which can be used by parents or professionals who are working with an individual child or with a group of girls. The Playtime pages contain three short scenes to have fun with. The girls can read them aloud or act them out as an introduction to exploring relationships. A Resources list points the way to areas adults might like to investigate to assist them with work they are doing with compulsive eating children. The Fat to Fabulous companion book especially written for girls is also available from Trafford Publishing. See www.trafford.com/07-2461
