About the Author

Born in eastern Canada, Mervin Hempel is a retired teacher and guidance counsellor, who has taught, tutored, and counselled in urban and suburban schools across Canada and Australia. Merv lives with his wife, Judy, in Victoria on Vancouver Island, on the west coast of Canada. They have two grown children. Merv has been 59 years old for the past few years because he likes that age. His favourite activities are hiking the coastline around the southern part of the Island, cycling the trails, walking his dog, and playing chess with his buddies from around the world.
