Explore the heart of the Brazilian rainforest through the photographer's eyes and venture into richly vegetated waterways that harbor rare species of animals and insects. Michael Szesko's photographs vividly show the beauty of this great land and his desire to share what he sees, especially with those individuals unable to make the journey. The selection of photographs printed in the book will reveal vivid colors of lush rainforest landscapes and bring you up close to the indigenous people who still live in the ways of their ancestors. The reader will learn about how this pristine world remained largely unexplored until recent years and how this exposure to modern society threatens the existence of many plant and animal species, as well as native tribes. As visitors to cultures very different from the modern American lifestyle, the Szesko's were accepting, tolerant and respectful of the differences among the people. Their experience in the jungle imparted a wisdom that reinforces the importance of protecting our planet's "lungs" and natural resources. As caretakers of this planet, all of us must strive to determine the precise balance between human needs and environmental survival. Hopefully this book will inspire the reader to take action to preserve our majestic planet.

About the Author

Deborah P. Szesko holds a Masters Degree in Science from Rutgers College, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA. She had been employed in the pharmaceutical research industry for many years before starting a family with her husband Michael. She created Science Quest Let the Journey Begin in 1995 and conducts workshops to elementary and middle school students.

Michael J. Szesko is Vice President of Omnicare, Inc. and enjoys photography in his spare time. He photographed the entire trip with a Canon 5D EOS 12.8 mega pixel full frame professional digital camers and the clarity of his photographs is excellent.
