About the Author

He grew up in Sacramento, California. In high school he was a National Merit Scholar and a State Scholarship winner. He graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point where he also had a successful career in boxing. He served in the Army for many years as a Field Artillery officer in numerous leadership positions. He was able to earn a Master's degree in exercise physiology from the University of Illinois in 1984 which enabled him to return to West Point as a physical education instructor. He taught hundreds of cadets culminating in being selected 1987 Instructor of the Year. He has coached many successful teams at the military, intercollegiate and high school levels. His involvement in fitness led to him appearing as a guest instructor on several national television fitness shows. He coached and trained Nancy Popp, the 1992 Reebok National Competitive Aerobics champion and one of the stars of ESPN's show, Fitness Pros. He retired from the Army while serving as the Deputy Commandant of the U.S. Army Physical Fitness School at Fort Benning, Georgia. He then served as the Administrator of the Columbus Olympic Village during the 1996 Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games. His dedication to education led him to serve in both the public and private school arenas. He has created a company called, Strength and Honor, a fitness and character building program for all ages.
