About the Book

Stories are exciting. They bring the past into the present and preserve it for the future. Kids do funny things, some folks perform heroic acts, and we all experience sad moments. The way we remember these is through the stories we tell at the time and years later to recall an event or a string of events.

Don Lucy has woven together a tapestry of stories based upon his experiences around the world. From a visit to Santa Clause that created a great mystery to laughing about a plane crash in Vietnam, each story is told in an entertaining style.

This is a collection of individual stories. Some were published in newspapers around the country. But now, they are brought together as a story about the stories themselves. They can help us laugh at the lighter side of life. A few have been used by others to deal with the painful side of illness and death in the family.

Every family has stories. For years, Don Lucy has encouraged others to learn their family stories and to pass them down to the next generation. One family did not know that Grandpa had taken part in the D-Day invasion until Don started talking to him about World War ll. Another did not know that Grandma flew fighter planes and bombers during the war - as a ferry pilot- until they asked for family stories for a class project. In this book, we can see how we can all tell our stories for future generations to enjoy.

About the Author

Don Lucy is an accountant. He is a teacher. He is a traveler. He is a Vietnam veteran. He is a grandfather. And he likes stories.

He didn't learn to read until he was 19 years old, and his education up to that point was a disaster. Being dyslexic didn't help. But once he "cracked the code" of how words work, he began to read voraciously. Working for a construction company as a clerk, he left his home in New Jersey at 19 and traveled throughout the Midwest. He spent three years in the U.S. Army, including one year in Vietnam. (After returning, he spent two months as a guinea pig for Army medical tests, but that is another story.) He later returned to school to earn an MBA in Accounting, and he is a Certified Management Accountant.

After working as an accountant and data processing manager for 20 years, he switched to teaching at the college level and is now an assistant professor of accounting at a state college in Florida. In 2004 and 2005, he was included in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" having been nominated by his former students.

A constant traveler, Don tours the globe any chance he has. He enjoys meeting people from all over and from all walks of life. They usually wind up trading stories over a cup of coffee under a palm tree on an island beach or at a sidewalk cafe. He plans to make sure his grandchildren hear all the family stories, some of which go back to 1588 (No, he was not there, he just heard about them. )
