About the Book

The book contains information for parents, teachers, law enforcement and the community. All these entities must be involved in addressing the gang problem that often begins in the 4th. grade. In the past we depended on parents, teachers and law enforcement to address this problem, each entity worked in isolation without each other's input. Togetherness leads to solutions. The gang problem will continue to increase as more gang members are released from prison and membership recruitment in the schools continue. The book emphasizes the decrease in gang activity because it is unrealistic to believe that gang activity can be totally eliminated. Gangs have existed since early biblical times. The research for this book clearly shows that many gang members are intelligent and believe in the fair delivery of educational methods and objectives by our schools. Consequently, it is vital that the education system and especially the teachers be involved in any program addressing gang problems in the K-12 classrooms. It also emphasized that school boards and administrators be trained to become the true leaders in the battle against gangs. We can no longer expect teachers to be effective without total support from everyone. Parents must also be involved in this process. In the past parents have not been totally included and the same applies to law enforcement. Everyone needs to be involved in the prevention of gang membership instead of concentrating in incarceration of gang members. Together we can save many student's lives everyday.
