About the Book
"Memories of Mouse Rock and other youthful antics…", is a series of stories about true-life antics in the young life of a boy growing up along the post- "Great Depression" and post-WWII California coast. Oblivious to the turmoil that just occurred in the world, it was a time of peaceful joy. Each day was lived for its unique worth. In that age before adult fear "oblivious" is not an understatement! The "purpose" of this book? Humor, reflection and a brief detour from the events of today.
Readers will find, happily I hope, not all of these antics were mine! But they open a window on that world. Joys, trials and tribulations shared as kids. No, "you can't go home again". But that doesn't keep us from visiting the neighborhood. I have been asked "who is the target audience for your book?" My answer – "kids" – from 6 to 96, and beyond. I wrote these stories. But time gave me a sense that they really didn't happen to me. They happened to that "kid" pictured on the cover, and are only told here by the person he became.
This book lives two youthful worlds – at the ocean and on the farm. Society then gave us choices. So we chose to be kids, and humor prevailed! Now with grandchildren of my own I regret they do not have those same choices – to be "oblivious" of their times. We lived our lives – to our standards and not to the expectations of others.
