About the Book
The Sound of Harris is a work of fiction, but was born out of forty years experience in the field of secondary education in the North of England. The characters are imaginary and bear no relationship to actual people, living or dead. However, the atmosphere and most of the incidents recounted are real and are the result of numerous conversations the author has had with teaching colleagues from many different schools in many different areas of the northern counties of the U.K. Despite the wide provenance of the tales, there is little doubt that somewhere out there will exist many a secondary school which has a fascinating and hilarious story to tell on its own account, a story which will demonstrate once again that schooldays are, indeed, the best days of your life, for teachers just as much as for their pupils.
