About the Book
Three people drawn into danger by a corrupt colleague: A life lost by the lure of drugs and riches and a story threading through the massive process of generating electric power. The Tale is one of the immense and somehow brooding presence of an electricity generating station, linked with the once, indispensable but repellent mining of coal from the deep seams of the adjacent coal mine. The seams are so deep and low that the idea of working them is beyond the comprehension of most of us. The lives of three of the main characters are interlinked with the working and control of these resources which are now so essential to all our lives that we now, inevitably take them for granted. When a cataclysmic event occurs, it is an incident that is always acknowledged as a risk involved in the generating of immense power. It is an accident of course which can always be possible where human judgement is relied upon.
This story relates how, what seemed to have a simple, strait forward explanation was nothing of the sort. It becomes necessary, although naturally unwanted, for the unlikely heroes to take on the mantle of investigation and resistance to that cancerous, deadly scourge of illegal drug operation. The action takes in the detail of the lives of the main characters, enacted against the grimness of the industrial north, relieved, albeit by the rugged beauty of the moors.
The power that these people deal with, and which is the life blood of the nation, has so weaved it's way into their lives, that somehow they can draw on it to deal with what none of us would want to be called upon to do.
About the Author
I was born in 1931 and raised in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Whilst at College I became very interested in the field of Electrical Engineering and on completion of my studies I was introduced to the Superintendent of the, now extinct, Thornhill Power Station, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire where, after a spell of training in each of the other departments, I attained the position of Control Engineer. When the Yorkshire Electric Power Company was nationalised and the Power Station eventually demolished, rather than travel some distance to another Station, I decided to "go it alone," and I formed my own Electrical Engineering Company and after "pounding the beat" for a couple of lean years drumming up custom I eventually had a successfully established business. Since my retirement I've longed to put pencil to paper but never seemed to have the time - so much for retirement. Now, at the age of 77, I seem to have more time on my hands, thank goodness, - so here we go!
