About the Book

The Substitute: A Survival Guide for the Inexperienced, Unprepared or Unmotivated Teacher was born from necessity. If you are ever in a situation where you are expected to “entertain” a room full of high school students, ESL students or corporate trainees, this is a book for you! I was educated to be a teacher, but the one thing they forget to teach us was what happens when the teacher you are replacing has left you without any material to work with. If you are an experienced substitute teacher, you can cope. As a new substitute teacher, you may be lost. From that first day, I realized that I would never enter a classroom without being fully prepared. I decided to gather as many fun activities as I could and never look back. I realized that my reputation as a sub grew because of the fun the students were having in my class. I understood that if my classes were interesting and different, I would get more substitute calls from teachers because the kids recommended me. If you are a teacher looking for a job, you understand how difficult it is. If you can impress the students, you are more likely to get numerous sub jobs, which will lead to a permanent position.
