About the Book

Extensive areas of the world are experiencing epidemics of overweight and obesity, conditions which are associated with increased risk of serious illnesses including heart attack, stroke, diabetes and cancer. The principal causes of overweight and obesity are increased consumption of highly processed Calorie-dense foods coupled with a progressive decrease in average levels of physical activity. The resulting imbalance between Calorie intake and expenditure leads to storage of the excess Calories as body fat. A vast number of methods have been used to treat obesity including innumerable dietary programs, psychotherapy, drugs and surgery. A common feature of these methods is that each has failed to produce a permanent weight loss in most individuals or to stem the rising tides of overweight and obesity.

The Retuning System described in this book, unlike many previous systems, does not offer a "quick-fix" solution to your weight problem but, rather, seeks to identify and reverse those dietary and/or exercise factors which have caused your present weight problem. The system is based on the observation that many people gain weight slowly, perhaps only a pound or so per year, and their excess energy intake over expenditure often amounts to only a few Calories per day. The Retuning System does not involve unusual foods or unbalanced diets, drugs or overly vigorous exercise. The Retuning System will do the following for you:

• Tune down your intake of highly processed foods that have lost much of their nutritive value, contain numerous additives and do not promote good health.

• Tune up your intake of fresh unprocessed foods that contain all the nutritive factors essential for good health.

• Tune up your level of physical activity gradually and in a way that you will enjoy.

• Produce gradual but permanent reduction in your weight.

• Improve your general health and increase your vitality.
