About the Book

This is a true South Seas Island adventure story about a young doctor/missionary and his new wife setting sail for and settling in the New Hebrides in 1903. In a series of letters to his mother and articles Dr.James Nicholson describes battles among natives, battles with disease, the sea and hurricanes, fights with the French and black-birders, growing crops and family and the struggle to bring peace and Christianity to Cannibal islands.

About the Author

The author is the granddaughter of the doctor in the book and was educated at Glenlola School Bangor and Lowther College in Wales. She qualified from secretarial college and worked as a secretary until her marriage. A mother of two children and grandmother of five who live in the United States, thus calling for a trip to California every year. But travel is one of her enjoyments, along with sailing, skiing, walking and gardening. The author lives in Bangor with her husband Eric.
