About the Book

Welcome to my little book of verse. Or poems. Or prose. Or whatever it is when you write stuff that sometimes rhymes, sometimes doesn't and can vary in all manner of ways.

These writings are concerned with things I notice as I'm going about or maybe remembered from some time ago. Some are just invented but some relate to real people - (names have been changed.)

I suppose one or two are a bit naughty and I must admit to not doing P.C., I opted out of that one due to advanced age and artistic licence. I hope no-one will be offended.

Fairly often with my offerings you'll find a bit of a twist at the end. That's me being a smarty pants and it happens because I just like playing with words. Sometimes you may need to read the thing twice or more to see what I'm up to, hope it doesn't leave you flummoxed.

By and large it's all meant for a bit of fun, to cause a smile or even a laugh. Just one or two have a serious theme ('cause I can do that too.)

Finally, as long as you bought this book, (as opposed to nicking it) you'll be helping towards an old blokes pension so thank you very much and may the good fairy of happy things smile upon you.

About the Author

Born during the dark days of WW2 when most things were scarce, Dave Ferris discovered and learnt to play with - words! By his own admission not too scholarly, he has spent his working life among Her Majesties soldiery, the backstage areas of theatre, assorted aspects of commercial security and "a few other bits and pieces".

With a droll sense of humour and a tendency toward flippancy, he usually got a 'could do better - see me' on the end of year report. Recently he has done better and with his people watching skills nicely honed and added to his drawing talents, this miscellany of his thoughts and stories has come into being.

Following no particular pattern or style, Dave's poems can be tongue-in-cheek, pensive or just plain daft. A few may hide a message or lesson but the intention is always to entertain - to amuse.

Now free of the monotony of hanging on to gainful employment, Dave is encamped near Uxbridge where he continues his campaign of embarrassing his (wonderful) children and encouraging his (delightful) grandchildren to do likewise.

Long may he continue to do so and continue to delight us with words and pictures gleaned from the fertile fields of his imagination (irrigated, we hear, with Captain Morgans Dark Caribbean Tincture.)

As this collection goes to print, Dave is working on stories for the younger reader and other 'Life' stuff.
