About the Book

Shades of Gray tells a timeless story of two individuals, Shelby Miller and Tony Gray, who find themselves in an unforeseen relationship. Their unexpected attachment forms in spite of apparent obstacles, yet teaches them interesting lessons in the midst of their clandestine existence. Tony interrupts Shelby's devotion to her family and forces her to decide between her career as a painter, her daughter, her inner desire for love, or herself.

As Shelby's situations unravel, she reaches for a unique thread to weave life back together. Understanding her need to overcome past disappointments, she begins a different journey that deeply awakens her artistic expression. This genesis inspires a new dream and leads Shelby to another, surprising destination.

Meanwhile, Tony faces his own dilemmas with his wife. Can they repair their marriage in spite of her pernicious anger? As Tony's feelings become more convoluted, he must also acknowledge his inert writing career. Between his contentious wife, his forbidden love for Shelby and his arduous life as a writer, Tony struggles to reach his own creative awakening.

Shades of Gray interlocks the lives of Tony and Shelby to address common occurrences of men and women everywhere. The story begins through a tryst but leads to another place of redemption, empowerment and love. As these characters fight for their victories, a stronger force leads them through life's canvas and paints an auspicious portrait.

About the Author

Kelly Pace is an author and freelance writer living in San Diego, California. A San Diego native and UCLA graduate, she earned her bachelor's degree in English and taught English at both the middle and high school levels in Los Angles for several years before pursuing her creative interests. Her writing efforts took her to New York and Texas, where she contributed to several publications and wrote her first novel Shades of Gray. She published Shades of Gray in 2007 after relocating back to California. She is currently writing another fiction novel and working as a substitute teacher in the San Diego Unified School District. She is pursuing her M.A. in Education with plans to teach English and writing classes. Her next book has a new batch of characters, but uses similar themes of empowerment and love. Kelly is committed to fiction, but there is one thread that offers a glimpse into her own character. "I guess deep inside, I am a hopeless romantic like any other woman," she admits.
