About the Author

Vera born in 1938 was evacuated at 18 months - meeting her parents when the 2nd World war ended. Having learnt Welsh during her evacuation period, she lacked knowledge of the English alphabet. Classmates being way ahead, she turned to mathematics for her career. Vera enjoyed working voluntarily with children - aged twenty, married and then had four children herself.

Her son suffering from arthrogirosis and ardhniodactyly, he was admitted to Bart's Hospital, London as a test case for the disabilities, so in childhood he lived 150 miles from home. He too struggled with English - yet got distinction at ONC and HNC. He won awards aged seventeen and every year at university, became a Chartered Structural and Civil Engineer and a director of an internationals company for who he'd worked worldwide by the age of thirty-two.

Vera believes Dyslexia is caused by the circumstance in childhood 3-6 years. As humans reign over the animal kingdom thanks to language, the brain becomes aware of language weakness by the age of seven, so it blocks language in preference for craft and mathematical skills offering alternative career choice in order to survive... The building blocks 0-9 easily mastered compared to alphabet's many letters of upper and lower case, complicated further by vowels amending letter sounds, lazy k, gh etc.

She received the Priory Award for Wales, from the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in 1983 for voluntary work, then took a catering job at the local hospital and began creative writing as a hobby. Winning a £500 bursary she wrote her first book commemorating the second millennium. Now a retired great grandmother she hopes that her latest book will benefit children in English while improving their cross curriculum skills linked to the story.

This book was planned as a foundation for success in English, Mathematics, and Science - compulsory subjects at GCSE in the UK.
