About the Book

Pete Sarsfield has written fifty-nine short non-fiction pieces, glimpses, of quickly observed life in both urban and rural Canada. Bob Jeffery has contributed fifteen of his black and white photographs, captured images which called for his attention. As Bob says, "Pete. s stories and the images co-exist in this volume and give you the opportunity to consider our glimpses and potentially create your own."

For example:

At 6:00 a.m. on a January morning, with a full moon easing down over the east end of Kenora. s Coney Island, near where the Narrows widen to become the Lake of the Woods, a man comes off the island and onto the walking bridge that connects to the Lakeside part of town.

He is carrying something on his shoulders and is pulling a loaded sled, moving from shadow to light between the six lights spaced along the narrow walkway. There are railings; he is safe.

The man plows through the mist that is rising from the small patch of rapid open water; then he. s gone from sight.
