About the Book

Plants that talk? Why not? Plants possess the same four senses as humans so why not the fifth...the ability to communicate with each other. Florence, a first year gardener in her local community garden, knows all this and uses this information in her plot #105 to produce a most spectacular flower garden...a Garden of Eden, where Garden magazine and photographers visit daily. Her plot is so breathless that Nursing Homes secure permission to visit it weekly. All this publicity leads to local, national and international news coverage yet Florence is never invited to the local community garden meetings. They thing her loony because she sings, talks and plays Classical music to her flowers. Her fellow gardeners poke fun at her behind her back.

One such incident: the gardener in plot #107...pretends to talk to a corn plant and asks, “Mrs. Corn Plant...your kids washing behind their ears?” Haw, haw. Florence just laughs such remarks off.

The growing season is half over and the growers are stressed out since their plants look anemic. Only then is Florence invited to talk to the membership and explain her success. Unknown to the Community garden, all this news coverage has many agricultural agencies secretly monitoring Florence’s 105 including the United Nations.

There are many other humorous surprises and you’ll have to read the book to see if Florence saves the day...a book for all ages.

About the Author

Charles P. Gourlis, a retired public school teacher, who taught Creative Writing to his students for three decades. ÒIÕve have learned more about humour from my students than from all the university courses ever taken.Ó In addition to the Seen but Unheard Garden, Mr. Gourlis has written two three act comedies, Jamestown 1607-08 and Census 2000. Jamestown 1607-8 Ð a comedy that emphasizes the need to bring english women over to the failing Jamestown colony to get the men to work for the glory of King James. (England desperately needed the exports.) 60 english male survivors and 38 english women...two weeks to arrange 38 marriages. Imagine the stress and fun this situation evokes. Census 2000 Ð Mr. Gourlis worked this Census, not an easy talk and the only way he and his crew could perform this difficult job was to laugh at all the difficulties and obstacles. Imagine asking people how many toilets they have or how much money they earn or visiting homes where all the shades are down or trying to locate people when there are mailboxes with either the wrong name or no name or homes with no numbers on their doors Ð great fun. All this for $13 /hour, still Census 2000 does have its many hilarious moments.
