About the Author
I received my training and education in the medical field while working in a Research/Teaching Medical Centre for 13 years.
I started as a Clerk in the Medical Records Department filing patients' charts and compiling charts with patients' medical histories, lab reports, treatment, diagnoses, etc.
I learned the alphabetical, numerical, terminal digit, color coding, and soundex filing systems.
While working full time, I took numerous courses to qualify for a better position. I took medical terminology, anatomy, pharmacology, statistical reporting, medical insurance billing, and medical transcribing courses. From a Clerk I became a medical correspondent, then data processor (coding), medical insurance biller, medical transcriber, medicolegal secretary - concerning legal commitments, child protection, and custody cases.
My final classification was Senior Hospital Medical Transcriber. I transcribed articles for publication in the AMA, APA, ANA Journals, and for research programs.
I assisted in preparing reference material for medical students and residents as to hospital procedures, etc.
I've "been there and done that". I know the Simplified Reference Guide I have prepared will help anyone who is trying to understand the special language of Medicine.
