About the Book
According to writer D. Grant Haynes, George W. Bush's appointment as president by an activist Supreme Court has precipitated the worst crisis in his nation's history since the American Civil War, at least.
In the opening chapter of his new book, The Neocon Aberration, Haynes asserts, "America is in a tailspin and I do not see her pulling out of it anytime soon. Greed, avarice, brutality, racism, religious bigotry and a callous indifference to other nations, cultures, and peoples - indeed, to the entire planet and all other beings on it - are running out of control today in America as they have been since George W, Bush slithered into the White House and the office of a presidency he never won. Dishonesty begets dishonesty. Evil begets evil. And the media whores continue to spread the gospel."
Haynes' book is organized into 11 chapters, each of which consists of essays written over the decade 1997-2007.
Though his commentaries on the Bush administration and the Iraq war occupy more than a third of the 262-page work, Haynes finds room to also decry environmental degradation, the lethargy of the American electorate, and a continuing lack of effective gun control in his nation.
Other chapters see Haynes sharing his views on capital punishment, the immigration debate in America, former President Clinton, the media, and animal rights issues.
Haynes shifts focus entirely in his final chapter, sharing his thoughts about life, death, and immortality from a transcendental and quantum perspective, as opposed to a traditionally religious one.
