About the Author

James Camplin was born in Portsmouth, England in 1949, the eldest of five children and emigrated to Australia in 1970 with his family, settling in the South West. He has been farming since he left school in England and in the South West of Western Australia, he and wife Carol leased a dairy farm for many years where they raised two sons, (a third died aged seven.)

Apart from farming James (Jim) has been involved in a number of other activities the most noteworthy of which is as a volunteer fire fighter for over twenty years. He is fire control officer for his district and has been Fire Chief, and is currently Deputy Fire Chief. He is heavily involved with training fire fighters as a trainer and assessor.

His hobbies include photography, writing and he has freelanced as a writer of magazine articles, and as a semi professional photographer, doing cow portraits for cattle breeders, as well as weddings and portraits.

He decided that there was no fortune to be had out of a small family sized farm, especially while leasing, so got a second job as photo finish operator at the Local Trotting Track. This led to a video camera operator job at the Race track, the same at the Greyhound track which meant he also operated the camera for Channel Seven and GWN at the track. When photo finish went digital he gained another six racing and pacing venues, being computer literate when others were not.
