Lillie Dillie’s Childhood Years
Serving people and money principles were taught as early as Braidee could bring her dad a glass of water and walk and drop a nickel in her piggy bank. A good memory of Lillie Dillie’s childhood friend Pudgy, was that his father, Mr. Buckeye, had taught him to save a nickel out of every fifty cents or dollar that he earned. Braidee liked the idea of saving money as a life style. That was so Wow! to Lillie Dillie because she made a lot of mistakes early in life as she wasted her money and misused credit cards. Lillie Dillie said, “never will my children do what I did.” Lillie Dillie made sure that Braidee listened to the stories during story time at their public library. She also checked out Big Books and books on tapes and CDs. At home, Lillie Dillie read short books to Braidee that related to building wealth and saving for the future. Before Lillie Dillie began her reading, she asked Braidee to preview the book’s front and back cover, pictures or illustrations, captions, contents, and then predict what might possibly happen in the book. After Braidee listened to the story, she shared what part of the book she loved the most. She received blank paper for her to draw in characters and dialogue bubbles of what the characters said in the book. Her pictures and conversations of the characters explained concepts relating to money that she had planned to apply in her life. Braidee gave her mother a brief summary of the main points of her drawings and dialogue.
Lillie Dillie liked how she had served the elderly ladies and was proud of that memory. She passed on that attitude of serving to Braidee. Lillie Dillie and Braidee visited the mother of their church, Ms. Priscilla who was the oldest church member in the congregation and made arrangements for Braidee to help her care for her hair. Braidee always loved braiding hair. Lillie Dillie allowed Braidee to serve Ms. Priscilla and develop her passion of hair braiding simultaneously. Lillie Dillie baked tea cakes and cleaned the kitchen for the mother of the church, too. She washed the dishes and mopped the floor for Ms. Priscilla. Sometimes, she ironed Ms. Priscilla’s bloomers for her. Old people liked their underwear ironed back in the old days.
Mr. Buckeye would be so proud of Lillie Dillie for directing Braidee to financial freedom and guiding Braidee slowly to becoming wealthy by working smart, saving consistently, and tying her passion into her career. Lillie Dillie started early guiding Braidee in the right financial direction. Lillie Dillie accompanied Braidee to meetings with free financial advisors at the credit union in order for her to learn about the operating the rule of 72, accumulating compound interest over 20 to 30 + years, Roth IRAs, etc. Lillie Dillie wanted Braidee to value saving money early in life. Lillie Dillie groomed Braidee from childhood to become wealthy.
