About the Author

Dr. William L. Leoschke, Director of Fur Animal Research, National Fur Foods/MSC, New Holstein, Wisconsin, has been involved in experimental studies on the nutritional requirements of fur animals (chinchilla, ferrets, fox and mink) for more than 60 years. These studies were initiated with graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin in June 1950, Ph. D. in mink nutrition, 1954, followed by five years post-doctorate studies on mink nutrition and physiology. Since 1955 a consultant to National Fur Foods/MSC involving experimental studies with mink and foxes leading to the development of pellet programs providing top performance of the animals in all phases of the ranch year including superior fur development with fur characteristics of (1) sharp color, (2) lighter leather and (3) “silky” fur – unequalled by pelts produced on conventional ranch mix or redi0mix programs within the world wide fur industry.
