My Flow When did dreams and reality become synonymous…. Precious artifacts broken and scattered at the feet of queens Minds righteous and keen Wavered and unseen But lately mirrors haven’t reflected what I’ve known to be images of me What is the position of my familiarity….. Why am I afraid of what’s inevitable I’ve become a stranger to touch But can I decipher the interpretations of such…. Intricate rhythms The pattering of feet Faint rain drops thumping And thumping….. Creating a score A slight metaphor….. Of my own thoughts Ideologies….of What exactly prospers in the fields where lilac decides to grow Rendering a scent of fluency Transcending….. What was once perplexing and cumbersome Now serene…… Where the rivers divide the sane from the irrational And secrecy seems to be fashionable Charismatic visualizations prepare what was stationary To my realization……Of my situation Far removed from the isolated misfits of unfortunate solitude… Coupled with the confinement of minds A pretentious fool speaks of previous recollections….. Questioning how this message might be born Beneath torn… Decisions lacking of vision Quite Possibly… A simple minded fool Impregnated…. Sublimely…. By my flow

About the Author
C. Marques Smith attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta, GA, during his time there he was a 4-year letterman in football. While poetry had already settled in his soul by the time he arrived in the ATL, this is where his poetry was nurtured and ultimately came to life. C. Marques Smith's biggest literary influences are Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni , Paul Laurence Dunbar, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Hill Harper. Each of these poets/writers possesses a very unique and alluring style of writing that has not only influenced his work but has also inspired him to follow his dream of writing. C. Marques Smith aspires to follow in the footsteps of these great pioneers of not just African-American literature, but the literary community as a whole. In addition to writing, his interests are sports, reading, cooking, technology and spending time with his family and friends. He is a Corporate Sales Manager for a national telecommunications company and currently resides in the beautiful city of Lakeland, Florida.
