Preface Culminating from over 14 years of writing and recording poetry, this book is a compilation of poems that encompasses a world of issues and situations, mostly from firsthand experience or lessons taught, that reaches deep into the depths of the heart and soul. The poems that Anthony J. Sellars has created include beautiful rhymes, deep insight, and often an aspect of wisdom and hope that can be discovered among the rhythm of the words that create the poetry. This book is sure to move the heart and stimulate thought in the reader’s mind as they have my own over the years of listening to him write them. After allowing people to read them or writing poems to help people cope with situations, it was suggested many times to my husband and I to publish these poems for the world to enjoy. . . and so my husband began the tedious work of collecting and consolidating his poetry from notebooks, folders, sheets, napkins, and ripped-off corners of pages in order to record them in the book you now hold in your hands. The poetry itself is a derivative of often intimate relational hills and valleys, personal military combat experiences, a loving and devoted husband and father, and the heart of a licensed minister who cares about the struggles of others and who always seems to look at what can be achieved in spite of the thorns that life can bring. These poems often speak what is hard to often say or put into words. “Jason”, as I call him, has a way of writing in poetry what the heart often feels but people have a hard time expressing. As I am fortunate to have found my husband, I pray that you are equally as fortunate for finding his poetry in this book. About the Book
Love & War: Poems of an American Soldier is a collection of poems written by the American poet Anthony J. Sellars, set in the time before, during, and after his service in the U.S. Armed Forces. The collection encompasses over fourteen years of writing poetry. His poetry centers on the topics of love, life’s struggle, family, the emotional effects of war, and the human need to reconnect and pursue God. The author writes from a patriotic heart that combines deep devotion, a love for the nation, and spiritual insight with the firsthand experiences of combat operations in Afghanistan and the emotional aftereffects of war on a soldier’s psyche. About the Author
Anthony "Jason" Sellars has been writing poetry for over fourteen years. His work stems from his combined experiences of being a writer by nature, a husband and father, a combat veteran having served in Operation Enduring Freedom in 2003 to 2004, and dealing with the emotional impacts and feelings of depravity that his experience overseas introduced him to. Sellars currently lives in Bainbridge, Georgia, and is the VA Certifying Official at Bainbridge College.
