About the Book
This book is a story about a man's heart and the pump, batteries and electronic controller that keep his heart and his life going. Also, it is a story about the author as a young non-typical teenager, the humble living conditions, the unique life esperiences he had growing up in the woods of Northern Wisconsin, and his early adult experiences in the state of Alaska. A must read for all the millions of people suffering from heart disease, especially those with congestive heart failure. This book conveys information that will benefit physicians of all types who are not current on what is happening in medicine, especially in the area of mechanized heart assist devices. Older people as well as younger people with normal health should also find this book inspiring, interesting and entertaining. For young people there is a message of hope, despite an impoverished or underprivileged background.
About the Author
Donald Bellile has lived forty years with heart failure. He was on the UNOS Heart Transplant list for eight of those years. During those years there was never a heart available for him. When he was at death's door and past the age allowed for heart transplant, his doctors implanted a mechanical device in his body to assist his heart to pump blood. He has written this book because of a desire to inform the millions of others suffering from heart failure that there is now something that can extend their lives. He has lived in Wisconsin, Alaska, and now resides in Arizona.
