It had been suggested by many people of the tribe, and also from others from neighboring villages to Black Wolf since Yellow Snake was a young boy, that surely the boys destiny was to become a medicine man some day. In fact, Black Wolf himself had also noticed this young boy as being very different from other young boys his age when he was very young...three years old and a few months to be exact. Young Yellow Snake was found one day by members of the tribe after a few hours of searching, shockingly, he was walking in a narrow canyon full of hundreds of deadly rattle snakes!! What was so unusual and shocking was the fact that the young boy was not being bitten by any of the snakes, as a matter of fact, he was actually stopping every few feet to bend over and touch some of these snakes on their heads and gently laugh before standing erect again and continue walking. Nobody dared to try and rescue the boy among all these deadly animals because of the fear of the possibility of either the boy finally being bitten, or they themselves receiving a deadly strike from their poisonous fangs. Yellow Snake eventually walked all the way through this deadly stretch of land and finally came out of the other side totally untouched. This episode was seen by many as a definite sign that this boy had special qualities that from that day forward, could not be ignored. The tribal Shaman, Black Wolf, was in total agreement with everyone from that day on, and had been educating Yellow Snake in the secretive ways of the medicine man for almost six years now.

About the Book
Truckee River Water Babies begins in the nineteenth century, telling a tale from the desert area near the great Pyramid Lake in Nevada. The struggle to survive for American frontier families is very tough but also satisfying. It was not as hard for the Native American tribes in the surrounding area to live with relative ease, as they have lived for centuries in harmony with nature and given the utmost respect to this land.
The Water Babies legend begins when the tribe’s shaman and his apprentice are unseen witnesses to the U.S. Army’s horrific slaughter of innocent people from their village, near the shores of the Truckee River, which empties into Pyramid Lake. This shaman created the Water Babies legend because of the great sorrow he felt for his people after this traumatic event.
In the twentieth century, a modern-day Shaman and his apprentice put the legend to the test, with results reminiscent of the cruelty and deceit that the Native American people have endured over the past centuries from the people who ruthlessly conquered this continent from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean.
About the Author
Dante' P. Chelossi Jr. grew up in the Nevada desert listening to a Native American legend called “The Water Babies.” He resides in Eureka, California, in Humboldt County, with his wonderful wife, Sprite; his Basenji dog; and his two cats. He works as a security screener at the Humboldt County Courthouse.
