About the Author

IQBAL AHMAD is a Professor of Human Resource Management in the Institute of Business Administration of University of Dhaka. He did his B..Sc (Hons) and M.Sc from University of Dhaka. After completing his education he joined in a public limited company and during liberation war of Bangladesh he participated in the war as a freedom fighter. After independence he joined in Bangladesh Jute Mills Association and got his practical experience of running jute mills. Before joining liberation war he completed his post graduate degree in Personnel Management in the first batch on Personnel Management. This helped him run the mills. He observed that labor relations in practical and knowledge he gathered from the post graduate degree is far away due to prominent local conditions. To rather more in depth analysis and better understanding he went to Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, Netherlands, to study Industrial Relations. After obtaining his post graduate degree he worked as a research associate of a project on Labor Relations of Ghana for two years. To have better understanding on total management of business he went to Aston University, Birmingham, UK to study M.Sc in Industrial Administration in the year 1976.During his stay in Netherlands and UK he attended many international seminars and workshops including working in the then Yoguslavakia. After completing his degree Prof Iqbal Ahmad came to Bangladesh and joined the Institute of Business Administration as Assistant Professor on September 1978. His present position he has to teach, research and provide professional services to different national and international organizations. He was the director of Sadharan Bima Corporation (General Insurance Company owned by the Government) which is one the largest insurance companies of Bangladesh. As a fellow of UNDP and World Bank he worked with George Washington University, Washington DC and Institute of Social Studies in Manila, Philippines. He was the fellow of National Productivity Organization and made several research works on supporting industry and small industry. Still he is the board member of Institute of Small Cottage Industry of Bangladesh. As fellow of ARIES , he went to Harvard University to attend workshop on “Teaching and Writing Case Study “ in the year 1994. He has also served as consultant to Asian Development Bank and Word Bank, Ministry of Youth and Sports and Ministry of Women Affairs. He worked as economist in Flood Action Plan for two years. He has been Chairman and Managing Committee Members of many educational institutions. He works with many private organizations including Non Government Organization as a professional member.
