Do not admire me,
Love me!
Only roses bloom to be admired.
Break my heart!
But do not admire me;
For the pain of a broken heart testifies that it once travelled.
Teared and torn
Threadbare and worn
It bares its scars for all to see-
Like nails in the hands of sacrifice.
A heart once loved cries out with the song of sweet tenderness;
It sings in the heavens,
It fulfills its being.
But an admired heart languishes in the darkness of sombre
yesterdays.
It lurks like a wraith in the graveyards of dead dreams.
It lies abandoned, aborted and absent.
It remains:
Barren
Untried
Untested
Unrequited
Unloved
Inutile
Futile and worthless.
Love me!
And leave the admiration to the cowardly and the craven.

About the Book
Promise of the Rainbow Through My Tears is a collection of romantic, lyrical and metaphysical poems, together with songs and ballads. The themes are a roving vagabond's stroll amongst images, scenes and telling experiences. Some reflect profound memories-pleasant and unpleasant-seen through the eyes of childhood and adolescence. Some are filled with a young man's romance and ripe with rhyme and imagery. While others are introspective and searching an old man's coming to grips with his mortality.
Above all, these poems tell the story of life's journey; from the cradle, along the dream of life, to the grave and beyond.
The poems themselves are not divided into any particular order or theme; they roam much like the authors experiences and gather their own rhythm as their theme dictates. Although the poetic style of rhyme is not popular in modern poetry,much can be found throughout this collection, which accents the author's nonconventional approach to his work.
What is evident though, is the varied themes reflected in this volume, which suggests that any reader will find some poem or line that would draw on his or her personal experience.
About the Author
Richard Claude Valdez was born in Port-of-Spain,Trinidad, the third of nine children born to Imogene(Jean) Atkinson and Francisco(Frank) Vicente Valdez. Early in his childhood, the family Valdez moved to the northern hills of suburban Cascade, where he lived until he immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1970. In Trinidad, Richard grew up amongst nature. His landscape and playmates were the trees, birds, tropic rains, blue skies, starry nights and long stretching sea shores, washed by the waters of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Many of these images are reflected in his poems. His first volume of poetry entitled, Aperture, was published in 2009. He resides in Toronto, Canada and in Florida, with frequent visits to his island home of Trinidad.
