The Chronicle of Harry Grossman And Dora Cohen Grossman Harry Grossman was born 1883 in the village of Kuriman, on the outskirts of Budapest, Hungary, where his father was a kosher butcher. At he age of 14 Harry immigrated to the United States. It is not known how or when he arrived in Pleasant City, Ohio, but what is known is that it was there that he started his career as a merchant by peddling dry goods, on foot, door-to-door. By penny pinching his earnings he was able to save enough to purchase a hrse to carry his load. As his volume of business increased, he bought a wagon to attach to his horse. Because Harry’s banker was so impressed with his hard work and business ethics, he was able to arrange a loan to open the Harry Grossman Department Store, which shortly thereafter became Pleasant City’s leading department store.
