About the Author
Raising four children of my own and foster children who struggled with individual problems, as part of a school for gifted children unique in their needs and challenges, watching one daughter as a Child Life Specialist in Oncology and another daughter teach at the School for the Deaf and Blind in St. Augustine, Florida challenged me to write and illustrate stories for children about being different and finding acceptance. My mother always said I was the first to pick up the bird with a broken wing but I found that in my passion for helping children most often the wing can be healed or used differently to achieve success in life. Children learn more quickly than adults that a difficult path is often just a different path and that there are others that walk the same path. Nothing surpasses the joy in seeing the first smile of a child succeed. Thirty two years of my life were in Virginia but I am now retired and live in St. Augustine, Florida where I write children's stories, paint and work with my little Pekingese Ping Ping who is a service dog. Soon, we hope he will also qualify as a therapy dog so we can work with children at the local hospital. My husband and I travel often and he often laughs at me as I quickly spot a small child wherever we are and smile is immediate. My love of children is deeply felt.
